Stand Up Paddle Boarding has become the ‘go to’ activity for fitness and wellbeing for 2020. Due to almost 10,000 boards being sold per week in the UK, the charity Above Water (water safety through education charity) conducted a survey into paddle board safety. The results of this survey confirmed the charity’s concerns; new paddle boarders are taking to the water without appropriate training and understanding. Numbers of SUP rescues are expected to have risen since lockdown.
In direct response to these concerns, Above Water are hosting the first National SUP Safety Week. The week will bring together the UK SUP community through daily posts, videos & interviews focused on how to get the best from your SUP adventure, whilst staying safe on fresh or salt water.
Starting on Wednesday 24th June, Above Water will host a week of SUP education. Leading SUP brands, professionals and instructors are all on-board, alongside common-sense guidance from everyday water people who have been Stand Up Paddling boarding for years. Our charity’s aim is to help all paddlers become #SUPingsmart.
