Surfing probability this festive period remains high (based on current long range weather predictions that is). OK, we appreciate there’s no real accuracy to these forecasts. Instead, long range weather updates give signals. But as a surfer, it’s hard not to put your faith in them!
The festive period signals time off from work and school for a good many. And having spent the last few weeks with nose to the grindstone it’s often time to unwind. For wave riders this means crystal ball gazing and willing the weather gods to deliver favourable surfing conditions. There’s nothing like working off that Christmas dinner by snagging a wave or two.
So what does the Met Office think with regards to the week between Christmas and New Year? Well, at the risk of jumping the gun the following was recently published –
Friday 17 Dec – Friday 31 Dec. Getting into the Christmas period, it is likely to be milder than earlier in the month, with temperatures near to above normal, although some colder spells remain possible. It is likely to become more settled around Christmas and towards New Year with increased chance of overnight frost and fog during clearer spells.
Now don’t go getting all giddy at the prospect of getting Christmas surf. We’re not there yet! And things can still change (and often do). Instead cross your fingers, toes and anything else as it might just happen. Of course, this is a broad general picture of what might come to fruition in the UK. Rather than location specific. But it might just might…
