As your kids grow older they also become hardier and are able to cope with cooler temperatures. For young children, however, even summer warmth mightn’t be quite enough to keep them toasty sans wetsuit or with thinner rubber in the UK.
If your offspring are keen water types (and we know many who are) you want them to be as comfortable and safe as possible. Hypothermia is a real threat to littlies. As is cold water shock. The last thing any mum or dad wants is their children requiring emergency services because of the cold.
We keep on about it but there’s a warm snap due in the UK (as of July 2022). But even that mightn’t be enough heat for your kids. The fact is, the UK’s waters and air temperatures are nearly always on the chillier side. Add any kind of breeze to the mix and you get evaporative cooling. This can make even the hottest summer day a shivery one for young folk.
An NCW 5mm wetsuit may initially sound like overkill for high season. But with the above in mind it’s better to be safe than sorry. If your nippers are in and out of the brine they may as well be covered with a quality wetsuit that’s going to keep them warmer for longer. And with more heat comes more fun. As all parents know only too well if your kids are happy then it’s slightly easier going for all the family!
North Coast Wetsuits does a great line in kid’s and youth wetsuits. We recently took delivery of a new container load so have plenty of stock as it stands. If you’re planning on hitting the coast or lake/river during the next few weeks then we’d suggest being prepared., Likewise, keep in mind summer holidays are just around the corner. It’d be a shame to be missing essential watersports gear for days at the beach.
