It’s now more or less agreed that warm, sunny weather will make its presence felt over the next few days in the UK. The south will probably get the highest temperatures but by and large, elsewhere won’t do too badly either.
Warming further to the weekend (Aug 12, 13, 14).
Each day is showing further gains in terms of thermometer readings as we head towards the weekend. This is predicted to be the warmest period with highs up into the mid-30s. This is what the Met Office says –
Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:
Cloud and rain in the far north at times. Elsewhere, dry and sunny. Becoming very warm away from eastern coasts. Increasingly hot across much of England and Wales.
And our friends at Real Weather suggest the following –
At the moment it does look as though Friday and into Saturday will be the hottest days in the south. We will see a gradual warm up each day this week with the low 30’s expected by Wednesday.
I’m seeing a little variation on the models towards the end of the working week and to start the weekend period. Some models show highs of 32-33c with some showing maximums of 34-35c, perhaps a 36c!
It’s certainly going to be a hot week down south. More comfortable for other areas with the extreme northwest remaining on the cooler side in general, however, very warm on some days.
In terms of the breakdown to fresher conditions there remains uncertainty for the start of next week. Most models go for a red hot weekend (this coming weekend) with the hot temperatures continuing across the south and east next Monday.
Though general consensus will be fresher conditions moving in from the northwest later Monday and into Tuesday. The south and east remaining on the milder side with the low to mid twenties continuing before we potentially see some deeper low pressure systems come into play later next week, especially in the north.
Any rain on the cards?
It’s been a super dry few months and everywhere you look the ground is parched. Hosepipe bans are in place across some counties and a few areas have banned BBQs because of the fire risk. With more hot weather it’s not looking like any rain will fall soon. And even into next week when some fresher conditions are likely there’s not much confidence in terms of seeing downpours. at least not widespread. Some areas have had some rain, we appreciate. And may get more soon. But it’s not across the whole country.
The positive.
While climate change is definitely affecting our weather the warm conditions are definitely excuse to get amongst it outdoors and in the sea. With such warm air temperatures, and it being August, the water’s are warm in most places. But there should always be caution as hot air means the warmest of oceans can feel cold initially. Some protection is always a good idea if in the drink.
