We’ve known it’s been on the card for a while. And as we write winter conditions have officially landed in the UK. Following the stormy (and mild) autumn) it’s now much calmer (wind-wise) and decidedly chilly with more cold weather to come.
Scanning the local surf spots and the waves look fun this morning with a few feet pulsing in. This is set to get bigger through the day and into tomorrow. And with offshore winds. So great for surfing if you can get in.
Looking further ahead and this run of conditions should last until around Sunday when the surf tails off. Winds will remain offshore though.
There’s been much sensationalised hype in the media about the current weather we’re getting and going to get more of. Familiar terms like ‘beast from the east’ are banded about way too much in our opinion. When what’s happening is a blocking high, drawing in cold continental air, is the scenario which is normal during winter. Chilly, yes, but a ‘beast’? Not so much. Maybe we’ll eat our winds if suddenly temperatures plummet further and we get bouts of snow. But as yet it doesn’t look likely outside of high, hilly terrain.
One thing that is true, however, is the need for decent, quality rubber when you’re in the brine chasing waves. A well manufactured winter wetsuit and associated accessories are must haves. Fortunately here at NCW we can sort you out and all without breaking the bank.
Follow the link to NCW’s webshop where you’ll find plenty of winter rubber. As always if you have any questions get in touch.
