Further to our last gear scenario post featuring NCW’s 3mm hooded neoprene rigging jacket we wanted to find out a bit more. We never designed the jacket with submersible sports in mind. But as you can see from the pics it works great for wing foiling. And our man in the foiling know has described it as ‘revelatory’ for winter flights above water.
I’ve used NCW’s 3mm hooded neoprene rigging jacket in many scenarios to date. It’s great as a garment to wear whilst rigging up windsurf kit. For SUP it’s a winner when you need an extra layer whilst paddling. I’ve even used it when drumming in the bat cave on super cold days! You can see this in the vid below.
As an avid wing foiler I’m out flying above the brine in all weather and seasons. One of the biggest issues with above water disciplines is the evaporative cooling effect of breeze on rubber. Being able to halt this is a good thing. But I’d never considered wearing the 3mm hooded neoprene jacket until a few days back.
My biggest reservation is how cumbersome the jacket might be if having to swim. But I needn’t have worried as it proved no issue with plenty of freedom of movement. Not once did I feel restricted. NCW Mark asked me about the hood filling with water. But that wasn’t noticeable either. And using a waist leash, the belt wraps around the jacket and keeps it in place, stopping it riding up. That then allows the additional rubber to give a barrier around the upper thighs and stop those body parts from getting cold.
All in I’m pretty chuffed the jacket works for wing foiling. And I can’t see it being a problem for windsurfing either. As a winter protection piece, whilst on the water, it’s now a go to NCW product! Oh, and I quite like the pink. Although I appreciate other colours may be more applicable to some. ‘
So there you have it. Yet more versatility from an NCW product never designed with wingsurfing in mind. Check out more about the NCW 3mm hooded neoprene jacket via the product link below. Get in touch if you have any questions.
