Bodyboard sleds past their best, old tyres, and unwanted neoprene are great for being turned into planters. When these items reach their end of life rather than chuck ’em in the bin here at NCW we try and make something more useful out of them. You probably already know how we repair wetsuits. And if it can’t be repaired then we use the material for other things. Well, it doesn’t just stop there.
Bodyboard and tyre planters.
A case in point is our bodyboard and tyre planters that are scattered about NCW’s Rubber Shack. Having cut up old, broken bodyboards given to us by customers we use them to line the bottom of old tyres donated by a local garage (thanks Trelawney Garage, Port Isaac). Once seated we line the tyres with old sacking from stock delivery cartons, adding some drain holes, which can then be filled with soil and compost. Plants then end up on top.
Simple yet effective.
It’s a simple thing that fits NCW’s commitment to reducing our impact on the planet. And these planters also fit the vibe of The Rubber Shack and our ‘keeping it real’ surf shop ethos. As you can see there are always ways to be greener. And here at NCW, we’re trying our best to do so.
