NCW recently signed up a new team rider to help promote the Cornish brand’s homegrown wetsuits, wetsuit accessories and be an ambassador for the long-time St. Endellion-based company. Jowan – a 14-year-old foil frother from Newquay – has been turning heads with his progressive riding. So NCW was stoked to partner with the young fella and get the lowdown.
NCW team rider Jowan Vittle gives us the lowdown.
Hey Jowan! How’s it going? Could you give us your backstory? How did you get into watersports and why foiling?
- I am 14 years old and Newquay has always been home for me.
- The first craft I took to was a surfboard at around 4 purely due to the fact that I had a huge exposure to it.
- I have surfed ever since I can really remember but at around 7 I took to windsurfing before I discovered the joy of foiling around 5 years ago.
- The first time I saw a foil was on a Kai Lenny video when I was around 9 years old and from that moment I was truly addicted.

- Foiling appeared due to the ability to ride swells and jump with no ramp.
- I frequently participate in 3 other disciplines – wing foiling, prone and dock start. But I also am learning to downwind and I am always looking to progress with freestyle and racing.
- The first discipline that I tried was wing foiling as it was a smooth transition from windsurfing but in July 2024 I really found my love for wing foiling.
- I can at least get 2 prone sessions in a week and around 1 wing a week but in winter this is significantly harder.
- I normally foil with my dad and my best friend Theo but I am often out with the Newquay crew.
- I think one of the most inspiring riders is probably Guy Bridge with his skill in all disciplines.
- In 2025 I wish to win the King of the Roads race and participate in many others around the country. I also wish to keep pushing my prone game until I am the best in Cornwall!
What drew you to NCW?
- I was drawn to NCW because I saw their involvement in foiling and I wanted to be a part of it and support local businesses in my area. NCW wetsuits are great!
- I am using the NCW junior 5mm winter wetsuit and their boots gloves and hood for the winter season and I have also fallen in love with their changing mat.

- I see it as an involved family-run brand in my local area who support all kinds of watersports and outdoor activities.
- NCW have been keeping me warm over numerous sessions and they have a very unrestrictive wetsuit design.
- I would like to see maybe a junior 5mm wetsuit with a built-in hood from NCW?
- I am super proud of being involved in this evolution of watersports and I am loving being a part of it!!
- I just like to say a huge thanks to my mum and dad I couldn’t do it without you and all my sponsors!!!
