SUP is a great tool for using to clean up your local waterways. With stretches of rivers and seas becoming ever clogged with rubbish and debris having the means to remove some of this clutter is essential.
For most, the weather and elements (with it being late autumn 2021) will now be against your stand up paddle boarding. So looking ahead to 2022 will be the next step. Making a small difference and doing your own waterway clean up, or organising a larger type, is something to plan for next year.
SUP clean up on the river Lee, Ireland.
Taking a leaf out NCW team rider Dave Ludgate’s book it could become your mission to paddle and remove rubbish over the long term. Dave regularly paddles around Cork Harbour, clearing debris in the process. Not only is he spending time afloat he’s also making a small difference to the environment. And as we all know small differences can all roll into bigger changes.
One of Dave’s summer clean up operations was on the River Lee. Of which you can see a video edit above. Gathering together stand up paddlers and sit on top kaykers the crew went to work getting rid of clutter and rubbish from the area. Great work by all involved we’re sure you’ll agree.
Looking after our environment and waters.
There’s never been a greater focus on our waterways. It’s no secret there’s a problem with sewage in seas and rivers. By helping to rid these paddling playgrounds of additional rubbish you’re helping to improve them no end.
So for 2022 why not put your SUP to good use. Of course, enjoy your stand up paddle boarding but also do some good in the process. As we said above you could get rid of some clutter individually or as part of a group. Whatever works, it’s all good. The more we work together to clean up seas and rivers the better.
