I get really cold wild swimming - how can I keep warm without a wetsuit

Wild swimming is big at the moment. Immersing in cold water without the need for thick winter wetsuits has many health benefits. Of course, some wild swimmers do prefer to rubber up before a dip. But talking to enthusiastic and experienced cold water swimmers the attraction and adrenaline buzz comes from actually getting cold. Yet it’s still too much for some. And there’s a real danger of hypothermia post-wild swim session whilst hanging about at the beach, lake or river.

NCW wild swimming accessories.

If you’re someone who gets really cold when wild swimming, or you’re still at the early stage of building up to full immersion without rubber, then NCW has plenty of products that are applicable. You don’t need a full 5mm winter wetsuit. Instead, a 2mm short john suit could fend off just enough chill to enjoy your wild swimming splashes.

Maybe you’re a wild swimmer who only needs a head covering. As much as anything something like a Hi-Vis swimming cap could be for safety purposes. Allowing other water users to see where you are. Whatever your wants/needs NCW has the right kit for you. And having wild swimmers in the house we know the sport and can give the right advice.

Wild swimming post-sessions.

The after-swim period shouldn’t be forgotten either. Even hardened open water dippers need the right clobber to warm up. Getting some heat in your body quickly is key. So don’t scrimp on your methods and what you use to make this happen.

A good quality change robe will be worth its weight in gold. As will a change mat allowing swimmers to stand free of the frost and cold. Toasty beanie hats and Sherpa Fleece lined hoodies will give more time to natter and enjoy a brew with your fellow wild swimmers. Having a ‘wet bucket’ or waterproof dry bag in your vehicle for damp gear will keep everything moisture-free, so definitely worth looking at these too.
