SUP racing has seen a resurgence of interest during the latter part of summer 2022. The assumption is those many paddlers that came to SUP during COVID have progressed. Or at least some have. But rather than head down the surfing route (which would be the obvious thought), it’s SUP racing that’s captured interest. How do we know? Mainly because we’re seeing social media posts about the topic and how paddlers are getting involved.
One such paddler is NCW team rider Sam Gill. Always up for a challenge, Sam decided to get on the SUP ‘racehorse’ a few weeks ago. Having sourced a suitable SUP race sled he’s been putting the miles in. Sam’s using a 12’6 race SUP and adjustable Indiana SUP paddle currently. (If you didn’t know NCW sells Indiana SUP paddles). He’s also been using a variety of NCW wetsuit accessories as attire during training sessions. Here’s what he said about his recent grind out.
NCW kit. Perfect warm September paddle gear! 4K grind this morning, most of it into the wind! But no issue and good practise.
Sam Gill
By all accounts Sam has also entered his first SUP race, happening soon. We’ll be watching on with interest to see how the chap gets on. We’re sure he’ll do great but good luck regardless!
If you need any SUP gear – whether that be SUP water wear, paddles, boards (including race SUP which we can source) or post-SUP kit such as hats and hoodies – have a look at the paddle section on NCW’s website here. For any questions get in touch.
