Wind is for windsurfing – and it’s windy in the UK currently (as of July 4, 2023). When it’s proper windy, as is the case now, there’s no better reason to bust out the windsurfing gear. As we all know Mother Nature’s moods can be fickle, with periods of calmer weather not conducive to scoring decent windsurfing sessions. So when a blow swings in it’s time to get involved.
Windsurfing’s different faces.
Windsurfing is a diverse and versatile beast these days. There’s a part of the sport tailored to whatever conditions you get on the day. If it’s particularly blowy, perhaps with waves, then wave sailing or freestyle wave gear is usually the option. For those who subscribe to whirly twirly types of windsurfing you can always go and chuck some moves down freestyle, er, style.
When the breeze backs off go grab your slalom or freeride kit. Locked in, blasting across the blue is an amazing experience and one that many addicted windies chase regularly. To be honest, this is perhaps the most common type of windsurfing you’ll get during the UK’s summer. And then there’s foiling. Adding a hydrofoil unlocks the low end of the wind spectrum even further. Also, for those who don’t want to plane you have the windSUP option which can be great for cruising about in the summer sunshine.
NCW’s windsurfing connections.
North Coast Wetsuits have a long historical connection with windsurfing and wind sports. A few of NCW’s team riders are dedicated windsurfers. And with a whole bunch of knowledge to call upon we started selling windsurfing kit a couple of seasons back.
And we still continue to do so. Our range of windsurfing sails from Nautix and Challenger Sails UK are tip top and pretty affordable. In tandem, Tahe Techno windsurf boards are extremely tailored to the every day windsurfer. Easily accessible performance, bomb roof construction and (as with the sails we sell) good value for money.
If you’re looking for some fun windsurfing toys for summer windy fun, or if you’re after an upgrade from your current beginner set up then look no further. Head over to NCW’s windsurfing section here to find your perfect windsurfing partner.
