Summer to return for late August, as a statement, may seem like general sensationalist tabloid fodder were accustomed to seeing of late. But bear with us as there is some light at the end of the damp tunnel this year’s generally been. In fact, if you’re a surfer after fun conditions keep your eyes peeled.
Summer 2023.
Summer 2023 will probably go down as average at best. Whilst not a total washout it’s still been rainy and breezy for many. There have certainly been windows of bright, warm and sunny weather but you’ve had to catch these when you can.
As always, though, many’ll put up with Mother Nature’s moodiness (do we have any choice in the UK?). And the outdoor sports sector has still done OK. You mightn’t have found idyllic surfing conditions but there’s been a bump to play with on most occasions.
Late August 2023 weather predictions.
The Met Office long range forecast is suggesting a warm up as it stands (Aug 16, 2023). Looking out the window and at our local surf cams the sky is generally blue, winds are light and waves are around the 2ft mark. So plenty of reasons to get wet if you can today.
Further ahead and we’re likely to see other periods of bright conditions mixed with damp – standard then. Although take note that it could end up warm (when it’s warm) so pleasant none the less. Moving towards August Bank Holiday and winds are suggested to remain light and generally from an easterly direction. That’s offshore and good for waves in NCW’s neck of the woods. There may also be a solid pulse towards the final parts of August, although that’s a way off.
Summing up.
We know it’s been a mixed bag this summer but it’s always worth getting outside when you have the opportunity. Whether surfing or enjoying some land based adventures there’s always fun to be had. Unfortunately, we can’t always guarantee the weather in the UK. But you can always guarantee having the right kit for whatever your watery plans are by visiting NCW’s website or Rubber Shack showroom.
If you’re due some R&R time and heading for the coast be sure to get your essential surfing, watersports and outdoor adventure gear beforehand. Alternatively, come and pay us a visit in Cornwall.
