Polzeath – a North Kernow surfing staple.
Polzeath attracts LOTS of visitors right through the year. An accessible surfing spot Polzy is great for families. Sure enough, Polzeath has its day of epic waves. But by and large, it’s a welcoming and mellow location.
Low tide gives a greater expanse of sand and water to play. Whereas high shrinks the beach significantly. There’s an outflowing river that groms love to play in. And North Coast Wetsuits is just ten minutes away!

Daymer Bay – the little surfing bro of Polzeath.
Just around the corner from Polzeath, you’ll find the idyllic Daymer Bay. Nestled at the mouth of the Camel Estuary Daymer is a scenic surf spot that doesn’t quite pick up as much swell as neighbouring beaches. That said, it can be great for beginners.
But be aware of the tide. This is a spot that can have a lot of current flowing. Outgoing tides can potentially suck surfers out to sea. Know the tide times and be careful. If in doubt don’t go out. There’s no lifeguard cover here.

Trebarwith Strand – a classic North Cornwall beach.
Two miles outside To travel you’ll find the ever-popular Trebarwith Strand Beach. A National Trust-owned spot low tide gives access to a mile’s worth of golden sand. However, high tide sees this disappear. If you decide to visit make sure you check the tide times.
Once you’ve had your fill of waves there are a number of caves to explore at Trebarwith. Or head around the corner to Port William. A small cove with the remains of a harbour. Trebarwith is just 13 minutes away from The Rubber Shack.
Tregardock Beach – isolated bliss.
Not necessarily a beach for surfing (although you can) Tregardock Beach feels a million miles away from the more popular stretches of sand along this part of North Cornwall’s coast.
It’s a bit trickier to get to. And there’s no real parking to speak of. Also, lifeguards are non-existent. The beach also disappears at high tide. Tregardock is perhaps best visited with walking and exploring in mind.
Port Isaac – NCW’s local.
Not as renowned for surfing as other beaches in the area nonetheless NCW’s local – Port Isaac – is worth a visit. As much as anything it’s a picturesque coastal location that can be enjoyed regardless.
There can be a wave at Port Isaac. Equally, the small sandy beach is pleasant to chill out on. It’s a nice spot for kids to explore and play.
