With days such as these, where virus pandemics still rule the airwaves and media channels, it’s sometimes easy to forget there’s another huge problem that hasn’t gone away. The environmental impact of humans and our behaviour is still very much a threat to the planet. And that word, ‘threat’, isn’t used lightly. In case you missed it, life on Earth is heading for a precipice of which we may go over…
Plastic pollution, clogging up oceans and seas, has been widely publicised. We can all do our bit to reduce plastic consumption and waste. But there are other things going on.
We have it on good authority that sewage being dumped into waters around the UK is still happening regularly. Water companies suggest this is due to over capacity and therefore they need to release this effluent – another example of a seemingly small problem that’s impacting our coastline.
But it’s not just seas and oceans – there’re a load more issues across the globe. For instance, this year’s World Environment Day theme is ‘celebrate biodiversity’. With one million species types possibly becoming extinct in the near future now’s the time to focus on biodiversity. And the list goes on…
World Environment Day is organised by the United Nations and pushes for all of us to help bring about positive change. Be that through less consumption of harmful plastic packaging, implementation of greener business models in our areas of work, safeguarding wild spaces or maybe inspiring and encouraging others to live more in harmony with the Earth; there’s loads we can do.
No two ways about it: the environment and Mother Earth needs ALL of us take responsibility and do our bit, before it’s too late!
