Designed, tested and proven in the UK, in UK wave conditions, the Classic range of stand up paddle boards have been optimised for typical surf scenarios you encounter around our shores. Construction and aesthetics have been given due consideration also. The Classic SUP range is robust and durable while those ‘Californian cool’ good looks hark back to the bygone era of surfing in the 50s and 60s.
Coming supplied with three honeycomb fiberglass fins paddlers are able to tune the feel of their Classic based on wants and needs. From locked in, toes over the nose traditional riding, to more performance, new school carving SUP surf performance it’s all there for the taking.
The Classic center US Box fin can also be swapped out completely for something even more rip, shred ‘n’ tear orientated. Or shove the original center fin back in its box for better tracking, stability and glide on the flat.
Surf paddlers will love the Classic, which comes in either painted glass finish or Paulownia wood livery. The painted finish offers a tad more stiffness through the turn, when SUP surfing, whereas the Pawlownia model is a little more forgiving. For optimised wave riding prowess, the 9’11 is the go to shape. Whereas flat water paddling ability is where the 10’6 version just pips its smaller sibling. Both offer outstanding agility on the wave face through, with the 9’11 doing slightly better should the swell ramp up.
If you’re a heavier paddler we’d suggest the 10’6, unless you’re an accomplished rider. Whereas lighter surfers will do just fine with the 9’11. Don’t be fooled, the dimensions of the Classic range, on paper, belie the fact Freshwater Bay Paddleboard Co’s range of Classic stand up paddle boards are perfectly suited to a wide range of styles, abilities and conditions. They turn amazing, look awesome and will provide countless hours of entertainment and fun.
Also, family, all round SUPers should definitely apply here! As much as we promote the awesome surfing ability of the Classic range they’ve been tested extensively in fair weather conditions at beaches far and wide, without a wave in sight. The perception is inflatables are the go to for recreational paddling. When actually the Classic SUP lineup is also well suited and arguably more engaging than air boards for mum, dad, the kids, dog and anyone else who fancies a whirl.

The secret to the Freshwater Bay Paddleboard Co’s Classic wave riding prowess is its optimised shape. Efficient volume distribution sees a thinned out, rounded pintail (implemented for critical carving maneuvers) give way to a thicker mid-point where paddlers stand when paddling straight lines. Progressing towards the nose the Classic’s hull has a slight Vee that runs into a pronounced nose rocker. The deck, however, remains flat, giving even more platform to work from in terms of stance and footwork.
This also translates to the best SUP surfing performance you can get in a board of this type. Length = glide = early roll ins with plenty of speed on tap. Step back over the fins, towards the tail and the Classic’s carving potential is unlocked. Along the hull and slightly tucked rails water release is efficient whilst the pronounced nose rocker helps riders avoid unwanted pearling and nose dives when coming off the top of steep sections.
For traditional nose riding aficionados the supplied fin locks and allows ‘walking the plank’. The side fins bite and provide plenty of drive out from bottom turns and the Classic’s agility allows for all types of carving turns, lip smacks and redirects (for riders with skill).
On flat water the drawn out Classic shape aids glide with just enough width providing stability in most water states. Choppy waters are no match for the Classic range of hard shell SUPs.
